Where is the Sunbury & District Obedience Dog Club located?

The Sunbury & District Obedience Dog Club trains at Eric Boardman Reserve, Mitchells Lane, Sunbury, Victoria. We have proudly served the Sunbury community since 1985 and welcome dogs and owners from Sunbury and surrounding areas.

What days do you hold dog training classes?

Training is held on Saturday afternoons from February to November, weather permitting. Classes are not held on long weekends or when temperatures are forecast to exceed 30°C.

What age can my puppy start training?

Puppies can begin training once they are fully vaccinated. Early training and socialisation help build confidence, improve behaviour, and create a strong bond between you and your puppy.

Do you use positive reinforcement dog training?

Yes. Our club uses reward-based, positive reinforcement training methods. We focus on encouraging good behaviour through praise, treats, toys, and games, creating a fun and enjoyable learning experience for both dogs and handlers.

Are all dog breeds welcome?

Absolutely. We welcome dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages. Whether you have a puppy, rescue dog, or an older companion, our classes are designed to help dogs and owners learn together.

Do I need experience to join?

No experience is necessary. Our beginner classes are suitable for first-time dog owners and provide guidance on basic obedience, loose lead walking, recalls, stays, and socialisation.

Do I need to become a member?

Yes. Membership is required to participate in training classes. Please contact the club for current membership information and details about joining.

What should I bring to my first class?

Please bring your dog, proof of current vaccinations, a flat collar, lead, plenty of treats, and enclosed shoes. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early so you can check in and your dog can settle in.

What obedience skills will my dog learn?

Dogs begin with basic skills such as focus, sit, drop, recall, stays, loose lead walking, and socialisation. As you progress, more advanced obedience and trial preparation are available.

Does the club offer agility training?

No, the Sunbury & District Obedience Dog Club does not offer agility training but we do have fun days with instruction on the correct use of agility equipments.

Are your instructors qualified?

Our instructors are experienced volunteers who have spent many years training and competing in various dog disciplines. Their knowledge and dedication help provide a supportive learning environment for all members.

Is the club run by volunteers?

Yes. The Sunbury & District Obedience Dog Club is a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. Our committee members and instructors generously donate their time to support responsible dog ownership within the local community.

Can I train my dog just for good manners and socialisation?
