Hume City Council
SDODC are proud to work with Hume City Council in a number of ways. Our aim is to promote responsible pet ownership and give dog owners the tools and knowledge to be able to achieve the outcome of the councils requirements for pet owners as follows:
“Owning a pet can be very rewarding, and deciding to become a pet owner requires considerable thought and planning. All potential pet owners need to be sure they are ready to take on the responsibility of owning a pet before adding a pet to their family.
Being a responsible pet owner means ensuring your dog or cat is vaccinated, registered, microchipped, trained, socialised, exercised and healthy and does not represent a nuisance to other members of the community.”
We will continue to work closely with Hume City Council to get the message out within the community and help owners get the best relationship with their dogs.

Paws for Platypus Dogs Breakfast
In January 2025 SDODC in conjunction with Melbourne Water and Hume City Council participated in the Paws for Platypus Dogs Breakfast held at Emu Bottom Wetlands.
There were puppacinos and puppy cup cakes for the dogs and Coffee and muffins for the human handlers. This day was organised by Melbourne Water to help educate the local community about the effects dogs offlead can have on the native wildlife. This includes dogs being let off lead when not appropriate.
Our club put on a display of obedience and spoke to community members regarding the importance of training and how we would be able to assist them.
Here are some pictures from the event.
